ANPR System Cost: What Drives the Price
There is no single price for an ANPR parking system. The cost depends on how many entry and exit lanes you have, whether usable IP cameras are already installed, whether you need a barrier, which systems the software must talk to, how long number plate data must be kept, and where the site is located. A small single-lane car park and a multi-storey site with billing and hotel integration are different projects.

What drives the cost
Seven factors decide most of the budget. Two car parks with the same number of spaces can land in very different price ranges if these factors differ. Our own measurements point the same way: the recognition ran on ordinary IP cameras, so the camera brand is not what moves the quote. The number of lanes and whether your existing cameras are ready matter far more.
Entry and exit lanes
Each lane needs camera coverage and recognition capacity. Two entrances and two exits is a different project from a single shared lane, even on the same car park.
Existing cameras or new ones
If the site already has IP cameras that support ONVIF and can see the plate clearly, they can often be reused. If not, only the cameras that are needed are added.
Barrier or no barrier
A barrier adds hardware and integration work. If one is already on site, the cost is the connection. Without a barrier the system works in detection-and-logging mode.
Integrations
Connecting to a parking platform, a billing or payment flow, or a property management system adds configuration and testing work.
Data retention and compliance
How long number plates must be stored, and what documentation your jurisdiction requires, affects the design. GDPR applies to plate data because a plate identifies a person.
Subscription or licence model
A monthly subscription spreads the software cost and includes updates. A perpetual licence is a larger upfront payment. The model changes the shape of the budget, not just the total.
Location and deployment effort
Site access, travel, electrical and network work, and local requirements all influence the deployment effort. The same software is priced differently by site.
Two ways to build ANPR: dedicated cameras vs IP + software
Both read number plates. The difference is where the recognition happens and who you depend on afterwards. There is no universal winner, but the hidden costs sit in different places.

IP cameras with ONVIF + software

- Existing ONVIF cameras can often be reused.
- No vendor lock-in: cameras are replaceable and widely available.
- Hidden cost: the software subscription and correct camera placement and lighting.
The real saving is not a fixed percentage. It is that you do not have to buy proprietary cameras, and you are not locked to one supplier for the next hardware refresh.

Total cost of ownership: a method, not a number
The purchase price is only one line. To compare ANPR options fairly, add these five lines over the period you intend to keep the system:
TCO = hardware + installation + software + maintenance + cost of downtime
- Hardware: cameras, barrier, cabling, power and network equipment you buy once.
- Installation: the labour to mount, wire and configure it.
- Software: subscription or licence, over the same period.
- Maintenance: cleaning, replacements, updates, and the staff time to run it.
- Cost of downtime: what a failed entry or exit costs you per hour, per day.
Fill this in with your own figures and the comparison becomes clear. A lower purchase price can lose if the maintenance or downtime line is higher, and a higher purchase price can win if it removes a recurring cost.
Nothing in this calculation depends on the camera brand. In our September 2026 test the recognition ran on ordinary ONVIF IP cameras and two Android phones, and confirmed 24 of 24 plates in a two-camera setup. What changes your budget is the number of lanes and how ready the cameras on site are, not the name on the camera.

How much does an ANPR parking system cost?
There is no single figure. The cost depends on the number of entry and exit lanes, whether usable IP cameras already exist on site, whether a barrier is needed, which parking or property systems the software has to talk to, and how long number plate data must be stored. Our monthly subscription plans are 200 EUR for the mobile package, 400 EUR for Start and 600 EUR for Business per month, net. In Poland the same plans are 500 PLN, 1,500 PLN and 2,200 PLN per month. Deployment, including cameras, barriers and cabling, is quoted separately after a site audit.
How accurate is the plate recognition?
Our figures come from our own September 2026 two-camera test, not from a vendor datasheet. In that test the deployed setting confirmed 24 of 24 plates with zero false reads, with a median of 0.6 s from the vehicle appearing to confirmation. The test used 16 clips and 24 plates from an entry and an exit camera working together; a plate counted as correct only when both cameras agreed. That is a small sample, so we present it as a test result, not an accuracy percentage. Rain and night were covered too: a plate was confirmed in rain at 02:37, and two more at night at 04:05 and 04:36.
Why is there no single ANPR price?
Because the two biggest cost variables are the site itself and the software integrations. A single entrance to a small private car park, reusing cameras that are already installed, is a much smaller project than a multi-storey site with separate entry and exit lanes, a new barrier, payment handling and a hotel or property management system. The recognition software is the same; the work around it is not.
Is ANPR cheaper than a ticket system?
It depends on what the ticket system costs you today. ANPR removes disposable tickets, ticket machines and the manual handling around them, and it records entry and exit automatically. Whether that adds up to a saving depends on your current staffing, ticket and cash-handling costs, and how much revenue is lost to unrecorded or disputed parking. Total cost of ownership, not the purchase price alone, is the right comparison.
Do I need new cameras for ANPR?
Not necessarily. Our system runs on IP cameras that support the ONVIF standard, so in many cases existing cameras can be reused if they are IP, ONVIF-compatible and positioned to give a clear view of the plate. If the existing cameras cannot read plates reliably, we recommend replacing only what is needed. A site audit confirms this before any purchase.
What does the barrier add to the cost?
A barrier adds the hardware itself plus the work to connect it to the ANPR software. If a barrier is already installed, the extra cost is the integration. If a new barrier is needed, it is quoted as part of the project. The system can also run without a barrier, using detection and logging only, which is common at hotel and private car parks.
Is there a monthly fee for an ANPR system?

The hardware is a one-off cost that depends on the site. This spread-out model keeps the entry cost lower than a traditional dedicated-ANPR purchase.
